ABOUT DURMISH KJAZIM

Durmish Kjazim: Artist Biography
Durmish Kjazim was born in 1983 in Skopje, Macedonia. His early education in the arts began at the High School of Applied Arts in Lazar Lichenoski, from which he graduated in 2004. He later earned his degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje in 2011.
Hailing from a Roma family, Kjazim's personal and artistic journey reflects his deep connection to his cultural roots. Since 2011, he has lived and worked in Brussels, Belgium, where he continues to evolve as an artist.
Kjazim’s artwork is a powerful channel for his thoughts and emotions, leading to a profound sense of personal liberation and the awakening of new ideas. Drawing inspiration from Roma culture and tradition, he crafts pieces that speak to the heart of his identity. His focus is on emotion, dynamics, and passion, blending pictorial realism with symbolic elements to create a unique and evocative style.
Many of Kjazim’s works address the pervasive issues of stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination faced by the Roma community. Through his art, he seeks to honor his heritage, evoke the essence of his childhood, and confront the challenges his people continue to face. With sincerity and dedication, he transforms and deconstructs these experiences, presenting them in ways that are both unconventional and provocative, inviting viewers to reconsider and reflect on the cultural narratives around him.
